Our Location and the Beaches:

Los Alcázares’ beach is on the Mar Menor inlet which (as we've mentioned on previous pages) is Europe’s largest saltwater lake, separated from the Mediterranean by a 22km long strip of land, La Manga del Mar Menor, offering a large choice of sandy beaches and calm bathing conditions.  

 

The Mar Menor is only 7 metres deep in the centre and has shallow fringes which make it a safe bathing area for young families due to the shallowness of the water and the lack of waves (it is not tidal) and this is also why it is an excellent area for activities such as canoeing and kayaking.

 

Los Alcázares boasts 7km of continuous promenade behind the beach, with bicycle parking provided for those wishing to leave the car at home and take advantage of the perfect level cycling conditions.  The promenade is very popular with those who walk, cycle or run its entire length every day.

 

There are bars and restaurants within easy walking distance and showers and toilets are close by too.  Access to the beach from the promenade is almost level with no ramps required. 

 

The Mar Menor is shallow, with warm water and higher salinity than the Med, a non-tidal haven for watersports enthusiasts and those who enjoy the safety of this tranquil “little sea”.

 

The municipalities of San Pedro del Pinatar, San Javier, Los Alcázares and Cartagena, all have beaches within the Mar Menor.

The beach of La Concha hosts the Club Náutico at the southern end of the seafront walk in Los Alcázares.  All of the Los Alcázares beaches are located on the shore of the Mar Menor and offer safe bathing conditions, plus clean and well groomed sand.

 

Playa Carrión is a high occupancy urban beach in Los Alcázares. The second most southerly of the seven beaches which extend for 7 kilometres.  In Los Alcázares is Playa Carrión, an urban Q for Quality beach with fine soft sand and several access points.

 

The Las Palmeras beach in Los Alcázares is wide and sandy with good facilities This urban sandy beach is a kilometre long and at 30 metres is the widest one in the municipality of  Los Alcázares.
